ABOUT ME

Philosophy

Psychotherapy is a creative process where one strives for personal growth, a place where one is nurtured and finds courage for change.

Although some clients seek help because they desperately want someone to explain what is “wrong” with them, here they are guided on a journey to discover their strengths and wellness rather than pathology. We collaborate to build within and outside our sessions. We think systemically. On any given day, we may move around and experience how our bodies orient us. Art is always on the menu, especially with children.

Experience

I am a licensed clinical social worker with a specialization in mental health, focusing on trauma, grief, attachment, and relationship issues. Since 2001, I have had the privilege of serving both adults and children in Colorado.

Originally from Hong Kong, I grew up bilingual in a vibrant East-meets-West Metropolis. My early career as a social worker involved outreach, school and family counseling. To further my education, I completed my Master in Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1992.

My post-graduate journey began at Elmhurst Hospital, a fast-paced municipal facility in New York. While I was adept at psychiatric diagnosing, I quick realized that symptom reduction is a not an equivalent for healing.  This sparked my curiosity toward the transformative process of growth and my conviction that the “symptoms” could indeed be an invitation for change. Later my passion transitioned to outpatient counseling at a private, non-profit agency in including coordinating their sexual abuse treatment program.

My family move to Colorado gives room to establish my private practice and offers the  autonomy to collaborate more closely with my clients. Being a psychotherapist is a path that requires continuous self-care and development. While I benefit from ongoing professional education, I find my breath of fresh air through yoga, qigong, a morning run, making art or by simply being in the mountains. My two wonderful daughters are my most inspiring teachers, especially in the art of unconditional listening.
