APPROACH

My approach orients you toward the here and now while staying present with your body. We focus on the process; together we observe old patterns and develop new ones.

I integrate many models in my practice including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Somatic Experiencing, and Gestalt. Art and play are often used in parallel with parent-education when I work with children and their families.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a technique used to release trauma. It retrieves the body sensation and belief system that co-exist in our memories of the trauma. During EMDR, the bilateral movement of the brain is activated through eye movement, body tapping, audio or tactile stimulation. EMDR is proven to be an efficient and effective method in re-processing the distress and anxiety related to trauma and building resources in coping with new challenges. Please refer to emdr.com for more information.

What is Somatic Experiencing?

Based on principles of physiology and neuroscience, Somatic Experiencing focuses on discharging emotions and energy that continue to hijack the body long after trauma incidents. It assists clients to track their body and experiment ways to mobilize alternative motor responses instead of being stuck in fight, flight or freeze actions. This body-oriented approach is proven effective to transform traumas including wounds from developmental attachment issues. More information can be found on www.traumahealing.org.

What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt Therapy focuses on the “here and now” experiences. By expanding one’s awareness of body and mind, it helps clients observe the process as opposed to the content of their stories. The “empty chair” technique may be employed to help clients dialogue, negotiate and engage in therapeutic experiments.
